Charlottesville, Va., is the home of the University of Virginia. Situated about 60 miles west of Richmond, Charlottesville is a lovely vacation spot. Monticello, home of President Thomas Jefferson sits outside of Charlottesville atop Afton Mountain. Tours of this historic home are available daily. Charlottesville is close to the Blue Ridge Mountains too. You can travel to Wintergreen resort from Charlottesville in under an hour. Wintergreen is a great place for skiing in the winter, hiking, swimming and nature trails in the summer.
